Can you use your velocity points for a rewards seat in Etihad first? It shows only business on the velocity award bookings site but I assume this is because VA don't have First on their metal. Any info appreciated as it will safe a no doubt lengthly call to VA.

Mont80, that is correct... you can't book first class reward seats on the Velocity site.
However, the frequent flyer call centre can book Etihad first class reward seats. You can find out the amount of points required by checking the points table: velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/Airlines/PointsTables/index.htm

Sure can - did this a few months back. Availability was great for 1 pax. Call VFF and select 'partner airline award booking' and they'll tell you what's available.
