Qantas Alert: recently I booked a return to JNB, business. Fare was less than usual but clearly showed as Business Flex, full refund if cancelled. Tried to cancel online today and was offered only fare in credit for 12 months. Rang call centre and was told it is an "excursion" fare, no refund. Pursued this with supervisor and finally got admission I was right and a refund made. Anyone else had this issue? I just wonder if there are other pax who thought they had to take the credit because somehow they had made a mistake on the fare rules. Lesson learned: take a screen dump of the fare rules when you are booking - the eticket just said "business" with no fare code and no fare rules.

just a 'rogue' call centre operator...not fully aware of all the rules...happens everywhere...any business.. the best thing you can do is tell those 'higher up' that some 'down below' dont know the 'rules' (provide names as well)..so that this person doesnt continue to make the same mistake
i wont enter into the 'discussion' that it shouldnt happen anytime anywhere....and its no excuse...but the fact of life is wherever/whenever human interaction is involved..things can go awry..

I had a similar situation wheh booking a RT business flex ticket from LAX/SYD/BNE.I to tried to cancell and was offered the fare credit.After ringing the Aust call center and speaking to an an agent and then a supervisor i got a refund.Make shore you no the fare rules.
Thanks Robert, interesting to know that it's happened to someone else in the ABT community. Extrapolate to the wider community and some might wonder if it's deliberate.
