Im looking at booking a one way Qantas redemption flight from LA to Melbourne, does anybody know if you are still required to 'show up' at the local qantas office within 48 hours of booking to have your passport validated. I remember years ago when booking one way redemption flight with Qantas from overseas you needed to present yourself at the local qantas office. There is no longer anything on the website that indicates this process still apply.

If you book over the phone I dont think you do. I have had issues booking flights from HK back to Australia online where i needed to show up at the local office to have the CC verified. I did do a lot of one way QF classic award bookings in europe last year within spain and had no issue but I think better to be safe than sorry!

I have had a one-way classic award booking from LAX to MEL without the need to do this. My understanding is this requirement is only for certain countries.

Hi martin

i believe Hutch is correct. It's only certain countries. You should be able to make a dummy booking on qantas and prior to entering all your info a message would come up saying you would need to show passport to local qantas office within 48 hours. However if you call up it'll be fine. I'm going to the Philippines next week with my boss. I'm travelling whilst up there but my boss is flying back. When he tried to book his flight back he got the message saying he needs to show his passport. When he called the service centre though he was issued with a ticket.

You should be okay, I recently booked a redemption flight from JFK to SYD and had no problem, even though I had no booking at that stage for the trip over. I did have a problem when I tried to book another redemption flight one way from BKK to SYD though last year, so I skipped that stop and came straight through from LHR to SYD.
