Cathay flight, Brisbane - Cairns - Hong Kong. Do passengers get off at Cairns and if so, can they access the business class lounge at Cairns?

No, if you're flying from Bris you remain on the plane in Cairns. From memory, it's only about an hour and the crew bring drinks around so it goes quickly. It only ends up being about an extra hour and a half or so from the non-stop flight but yes since Cathay don't have rights between BNE-CNS everyone stays on the plane

I don’t know about FrequenFlyer’s flight, but that wasn’t my experience.

I’ve flown this route several time, most recently in December. It is a short stop, but on the outbound and inbound flights, everyone had to get off in Cairns, and they would wait in departures. It isn’t a long stop but you can access the lounge if you’re flying business class or if you have a Priority Pass. It’s the old Qantas lounge and looks like that, though it’s no longer a Qantas lounge (so QC membership won't help, though not sure about OW status).

We travelled BNE > CNS > HK back in October 2013 and had the same experience as Jim.  In other words, all passengers were required to disembark the plane during the CNS stopover. I also gained access to the lounge that Jim mentioned using my Qantas FF Gold card.
