I have just flown SQ from Frankfurt to Sydney on the A380. Is it just me, or is the hype about SQ seriously overrated?

Their flat beds are built for someone who is no taller than 160cm and the food was especially ordinary with the exception of 1 meal.

Why is it that everyone raves about SQ when i have had a much better experience in J on Qantas?

I tend to agree with you pab2025. Everytime I fly Qantas I am consistently pleased by the quality of the food and its presentation. The J seats on QF A380 are great for working in/watching movies etc & while not being the best for sleeping in they are still leaps and bounds ahead of the likes of BA Club World.

I find that SQ's J seats are flawed in that they are overly wide but too short under the thigh and then they don't recline that far to relax in to take in the entertainment. Food was OK but I guess I was expecting something more being A380 J class. While the service was warm/friendly on SQ I feel that the QF crew connect on a more personable level.

I completely agree. I watched The best Exotic Marigold hotel on one of my flights and one of the lines in the movie talked about how staff in call centres are quite robotic in their conversation. I found this a little bit with the SQ staff. Well trained and very pleasant, although not very personable.
