I'm going to Athens in August 2016 from New York City and would like to know if anyone has experience flying with US Airways on their A330 direct service from Philadelphia to Athens. I've only flown US Airways domestically and want to know if they're good for intercontinental or if I am better off flying British Airways via Heathrow or Emirates via Dubai.

Ideally I'm hoping to book the overnight sector in Business Class and daytime sector in Premium Economy (or at least the extra-legroom seats in Economy). I really just want to know if the US Airways/American non-stop service from Philadelphia to Athens is worth looking at or not. Based on my experience of the US/AA domestic product and service, I'm inclined to think it's not and that I should just book with BA.

Any feedback on experiences with US Airways international A330 Business Class product would be appreciated. Thank you

Go US Airways, there service isn't too bad and from experience it was quite enjoyable ;). Are you looking to fly economy?

Emirates via Dubai will add significant time to your journey. Personally I would go with BA, as even though the US Air flight goes direct to Athens, you still have to connect through to Philadelphia.

Check out Turkish Airlines. They fly A330's from JFK 3 times a day to Istanbul and B777's to Athens multiple times a day. Significantly shorter layover and flight time compared to Dubai.

If you're a oneworld status holder, your choice would be AA, US or BA.  Flying witth BA though will give you a good reliable J class or Y+ product to LHR and then euro-business (ie same as economy) on the 3.5 leg to Athens. There are usually on A320s which fill up and don't have entertainment.

Flying US or AA or DL will give you around  9 hours of possible sleep on the US - Athens leg. Turkish are great and have a good Y+ and J product. Their Istanbul lounge is quite impressive (assess for J class and Star Alliance Gold) and you'd have a decent 10 hour flight from the US to sleep and then a short hop to Athens at the end.

I wouldn't personally bank on the US PHL-ATH route being around next August and would therefore choose one of the aforementioned options if you don't want to risk any trip disruptions by being reaccommodated.
