Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can clarify for me the lounge access rules when flying QF, crediting QF points but holding a sapphire card from another OW airline. I have Platinum with AA and was denied access this morning being told it was against policy. This is the first time I've ever had an issue after numerous trips doing the same thing.

Thanks!

I'm going to suggest that is not the right way. We tried that in MEL, where the lounge dragons were being difficult and refused to change the FF no. and grant us access. We had to choose one or the other. This is what I suggest:

  1. Do not enter any FF number on the booking and gain access by flashing your card. Do a retro claim after the flight. Or
  2. Keep the FF number with status  on the BP. Before boarding approach customer service (not at the lounge) and get that changed to the FF programme you want to accrue to, and a new BP printed. Or
  3. I believe the QF virtual BP does not display OW status. So in that case, present the dragon with your virtual BP with that QF number and also flash your physical Aadvantage card.
I've not tried (3) but I'm hoping the confusion would throw them off.

i am plat with EK and have an issue each time i go to a QF lounge here - as i always book dom flights with QF number and then try to get into lounge using EK Plat - have never had a problem - they just change the booking adding the EK code and then i am in - as soon as i am in i then go back on line and try to change it (if allowed doesnt always work) or just claim missing points later on - they used to just have a list and write the number on it and name etc but seem now to change the FF number when you go to the lounge - but i have never been denied! must be my smile?

I have had the opposite in the US, ie QF Gold/OW Sapphire booked an AA flight under my AAdvantage number (AAdvantage staus=basic) -> no lounge rights then change booking to QFF number -> all smiles. Even the lady at check-in said 'How are you ever supposed to get miles?'. When travelling with my wife and doing sums on miles/points/credits one of us often checks in as QFF and the other as AA so we try and get a little of the best of both worlds.

Just wondering, did you try to change the FFN before/after you accessed the lounge? If after, it just doesn't sound logical to me... But again, "lounge dragon" is a great term.

Always crazy. Credited CX flights (fare code C) to QFF, using my Marco Polo Diamond (OW Emerald, I have another QF Platinum) to gain entry to QF F lounge SYD and got redirected to J lounge, but later I showed lounge dragon my QF Platinum, I was in.

Dragons indeed! Jeez....

Never had an issue with Air NZ when I have my VA number (red)  in the booking, and show my Avianca Brazil Star Alliance gold card at priority check in. Both in Australia (MEL) and NZ (AKL, WLG, ZQN, and CHC), never had an issue where they make a note in the remarks area to reflect the second card for lounge access.
