Would it be possible to fly on an emirates ticket barcelona,dubai,singapore and then Qantas from singapore to melbourne? Dosent give this as an option on either web EK/QF...Any ideas?

you should be able to do that all with emirates, as emirates fly the BCN-DXB, DXB-SIN and SIN-MEL routes with their own a/c

Once the Emirates-Qantas alliances comes into effect, then yes, you would be able to take this routing. You will probably need to have a travel agent arrange the ticket for you (the Emirates or Qantas call centres count as travel agents, their web sites *don't*).
You'll probably get a better result if you have specific flights in mind.
