Virgin Australia partner Etihad Airways will add Doha to its upcoming network of Boeing 787-9 destinations from December 2014, with Moscow to follow in June 2015.

That's set to follow the airline's inaugural Boeing 787 flight in December this year to Dusseldorf, with Washington D.C. and Mumbai the domain of the Dreamliner from January 2015.

Brisbane also joins the ranks from June 1 2015, when Etihad's Abu Dhabi-Singapore-Brisbane flight also drops the Singapore stopover in favour of a direct flight.

"The Boeing 787-9 will be used to launch flights to new destinations, add capacity in existing markets and progressively replace existing, less-efficient aircraft," said James Hogan, President and CEO of Etihad Airways.

When flying from Brisbane to Abu Dhabi or onwards to the likes of Doha, Moscow, Dusseldorf, Washington D.C. and Mumbai, travellers can enjoy the Dreamliner's new first class suites (shown below).

From December 1 2014, the daily EY391 flight from Abu Dhabi to Doha will switch to the Dreamliner from a smaller A319. Wheels-up in Abu Dhabi at 9:35pm, the hour-long hop reaches Doha also at 9:35pm.

On the return leg as EY398, travellers will push back in Doha at 10:50pm to arrive into Abu Dhabi at 12:50am the next morning.

Etihad's daily EY69 service to Moscow's Domodedovo Airport changes from an A320 to the Boeing 787-9 from June 1 2014, with an 8:45am departure in Abu Dhabi for a 1:05pm arrival into Russia.

Flying back as EY68, it's a 2:15pm take-off to arrive into Abu Dhabi at 8:25pm on the same calendar day.
