The longest Boeing 787 flight in the world

The Boeing 787 has notched up an overnight record with the completion of its longest flight – a 15 hour, 6,882 nautical mile trek from Los Angeles to Melbourne.

That flight was the inaugural international run of United Airlines' first Boeing 787-9, with the longer-range Dreamliner adding this new direct route to United's network map.

The airline's Los Angeles-Melbourne flights were previously done on a Boeing 777-200 but with a stop-over in Sydney, whereas the Boeing 787-9 will dart non-stop between the two cities.

"The flight now tops our list for the longest 787 nonstop route" observed Randy Tinseth, Vice President of Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

"It’s exciting for us to see the 787 do exactly what we promised our customers it would do – open up new routes all over the world."

David, sorry to nitpick but the old LAX-SYD-MEL flight on UA was a 777-200ER. UA doesn't have any 777-300ERs.
