Win a business class trip for two with Virgin Australia

You and a friend could be jetting off in business class to anywhere in the country with Virgin Australia, with one culinary twist: you’ll need to help design a dish for the on-board menu at the pointy end.

In 25 words or less, simply describe the dish you’d love to eat on board to be in with a shot.

The winner will find chef Luke Mangan’s version of their masterpiece on transcontinental flights between Perth and the east coast in 2015, appearing every six weeks from March through September.

And of course, there’s also the promise of two return business class flights anywhere on the Virgin Australia domestic network to be taken within 12 months, giving you the chance to try your own dish in the air.

Mangan suggests that the secret of great in-flight food is to “Keep it simple, fresh and light. It's about using strong, bold flavours, including fresh herbs and spices such as sumac or acidic fruits like lemon & limes."

To see what you’re up against, here’s one of Mangan’s signature dishes for Virgin Australia – pan roasted Tasmanian salmon with creamy cauliflower purée, zucchini, fresh herbs, capers, anchovies and chives:

Entries close at 11:59pm on Sunday November 23 2014, with the winner of the grand prize announced on Tuesday December 23.

The top three entries – including the ultimate prize winner – will also receive a gourmet Luke Mangan hamper, with the finalists announced the previous week on Monday December 15.

You’ll find the terms and conditions [PDF, 264KB], a sample business class menu [PDF, 167KB] and the competition entry form on the Virgin Australia website.

So ho won??

I note that the winner of this competition was never announced and that nothing has been suggested on Virgin Business class flights that the meals where from a competition. No idea what happened with Virgin on this one but looks like they have just passed this one on. Now reading the T&C's they can pretty much cancel this for any reason.. It would be interesting to see how many of these "competitions" are never really won!
