Hi all, I'm struggling to get a date change to the following day for the family for classic rewards in international econ (the return trip from USA to AU). I know there are seats available on various flights on the day I want but have unsuccessfully tried requesting them via the Plat call centre many times. Has anyone had any luck in getting lounge staff in the 1st lounge (i'm P) change the bookings? Or any other method of convincing them..?!

Seems unusual that many call centre agents all declined your request for a date change if classic reward seats were still available. What reasons did they provide?

If it's with a partner airline, it would involve cancelling the original tickets and issuing new ones for the new date. If you don't have sufficient points in your balance, then the new flights obviously can't be booked. Points refunds can sometimes take months depending on the airline.

Hi, thanks for your responses. I should add more clarity. I have many more than enough spare points but that is not the point in this case because there change would involve no points difference (same points cost as already paid). This is for a flight from LAX to Syd or Mel. It's on QF metal so not related to partner airlines. And there are no classic rewards seats available on the flights that's why I'm trying to request them. They say there are only flexible seats available, and I get how it works, but my point is (IMO) it's no different to qf if they have spare high fare seats on one day or the previous day. And so I'm wondering if the lounge staff have any discretion to change the date, if anyone has had any success doing that. Hope that is clearer.

I would be surprised if the F lounge agents could convert revenue seats to redemption ones if the Platinum call centre staff have been unable to do so, but it would always be worth trying. Although perhaps less relevant in the current environment of excessive demand, I think it likely does matter to QF which days they have spare high-fare seats available, as historically demand for these would vary across the week.

Just circling back on this after the trip. Confirming that Syd F lounge said they couldn't do it however they were nowhere near as approachable and friendly as I've found Melb F lounge to be (perhaps this was a one off experience). So I'd try this again if ever I got the chance. One thing tho, as an FYI the check in staff at LAX appeared to be very willing to look at options and would have moved me to the MEL direct flight had there been enough seats available. Of course this is applicable only to that day and requires you to be there in time for that flight etc. It doesn't help to change the date.
