Jal is a great airline to fly with,FA's are very polite and helpfull,I flew Melb Tokyo New York with them in business class and the entertainment was great,it depends on what you are looking for movies,games etc,I can confirm the movies were great
I generally reckon Jal is great but with entertainment it tends to come down to the aircraft you're on. The newer version IFE (Magic 5 i think) is great and i think you can find it on all the 787s and new 777s (probably the newer 767s too). Hope this helps
Service is great, food is good and I do not give a damn about entertainment. Well not really - they translate image from camera mounted outside plane, so you can see take off and landing - really cool. My biggest complains that their economy seats are smallest what I ever seen. Luckily we had been seated on first row, so while elbow space was real cr@p, as least I have semi-descent leg space.
Just a thought – why those flyers who really like to watch something on the plane do not take their own tablets stuffed with favorite shows or movies? IMHO no brainer!
