If Qantas doesn't fly internationally out of Perth (apart from seasonally), why do they still have a club lounge at the international airport?

Because:

  1. They used to fly out of PER daily, up until the PER-SIN flight was taken down to seasonal, so it's legacy infrastructure.
  2. They still fly seasonally to SIN and AKL, so the lounge gets some internal use.
  3. Jetstar's various divisions still fly out of PER on a regular basis. QP/SG/WP therefore have incentive to not fly the other LCCs.
  4. They have other non-Jetstar partners operating out of PER that don't have their own lounge, like CX. Selling lounge access to other airlines is a good way to make money from a lounge they already have.
  5. It means that if they were to sit up and realise they should probably fly ex-PER again, they would not need to build a new lounge.

I'm sure others will add to reasons why the lounge doesn't need to be removed.

the lounge in Perth gets plenty of use. Anytime I have been in there, both before QF pulled out of Perth and since it has been busy. They have plenty of partners flying out of Perth so it makes sense to keep it for all the reasons watson said above.

Couldnt CX us the MAS lounge, they are oneworld partners as well as some of the others.

I heard a dickie bird there were a couple of new lounges in part of the international expansion, not sure how true that might be tho.

Qantas has to return to Perth international one day. Singapore, Johannesburg, Hong Kong and Dubai are all natural destinations. Just need the right sized aircraft with the right economics. Some of those 50 787-9 options will do the job nicely.

Etihad, Air New Zealand, Thai Airways, Emriates, Jetstar, Cathay, South African and Qatar all still use the lounge

Rember it is the operating carrier who has to pay to let you in the lounge (Even if you have status with another airline)

And Etihad lets their first and business guests use the QFi lounge too, even if the guest/s is a VA member!

As mentioned on here or on AustFF.
