I am 60 SC from reaching QFF Platinum; what are my chances of being allowed into Platinum even without flying that last 60 SC?

none...you need to do a short run to at least get you 5 or 10 away then they may comp you...but no guarantees not knowing your history with them

Here's a question for you: Do you think in the next accrual cycle, you'll easily hit Platinum again? If the answer is "no", then I wouldn't bend over backwards trying to get thoes 60SC. Going forward, you'll feel gutted for losing Platinum and having Gold will never feel the same again.

I have to disagree, your chances are very good Spinoze. Qantas has a "soft landing" policy where is usually allows a Platinum or Gold who is short of the necessary number of credits to retain their status for another year, there have been reports on people who are hundreds of SCs sort being given Gold or Platinum for another year. So you should be fine. But then make sure you fly enough in the following membership year because there is no second time around for the "soft landing"!

Spinoza, sorry I just re-read your question, so you are not Platinum but just Gold? Well don't expect QF to upgrade you to Platinum then, sorry, you need to have the full number of SCs, OR maybe be very close AND have another trip booked for very soon after your membership date so youc an show them that you were just 10 SCs away and your flight next week would have earned you 30 SCs or something like that. and even then you have to cross your fingers!

Thanks for your responses guys.

I agree that if I am already on platinum, retaining it should not be difficult, but this is my first year with QFF (previously with Marco Polo at Gold only).

I also don't have any flights booked in the next few months, though I know there will be (I just always book last minute).

You're about one BC return flight Perth to Sydney away from Platinum Status.  Otherwise, no chance with Qantas.
