I recently booked QF117 from SYD to HKG which will depart on 28/8/2018.

It will be operated by an a330-200 with 27 business class seats. Does it mean that the old a332s will have been refurbished by mid-August? Anyone has any idea on what the new business and economy seats will look like?
Thank you so much

To answer your question, no, it doesn't mean that the 36J/199Y A332's will be necessarily be refurbished by mid-August.

The product you will see is the current product in the refurbished A332's that have the 28J/243Y configuration. There is plenty of pictures around as to what the product will be.

The 27J You see is any of the re-configured A332.

The reason for for the 27J not 28J, is currently the reconfigured QF332 do not have Tech crew rest facilities, unlike the QF333.

The drop in available seat becomes the ‘tech crew rest’’ thus only 27 J seats are available for sale.
This allows the crew to rest on long sectors adhearing to all OHS, regulartory and EA (enterprise agreement) regulations.

However sometimes these do carry over on shorter sectors, as there may not have had ground time to convert the seat back to ‘Pax mode’ this requires engineering input and certification.

Hope this helps

The first 332 Longhaul VH-EBS has just gone back into service with a 27J/224Y config. Refurb took about a month.

By late August there will likely be 2, possibly 3 in this config.

The seats in both J and Y are virtually unchanged from the bulk of the existing 332s (although the reportedly J seats are going cloth rather than leather).

The two remaining aircraft in the older config (EBG/EBL) will be refurbed sometime later.

This is correct, if you see 27J/224Y it would stipulate a longer range reconfigured A332.

However a 28J/243Y / 27J/243Y, would be standard reconfigured A332 or Standard reconfigured A332 with aseat locked out for T/Crew

Just be glad you're not on the 747 on that route. I did it a few weeks ago on the red eye coming home. That business class seat has done its dash!!
