I believe i know the answer to this :(

I am a gold One World (Qantas) and Star Alliance (Air NZ) travelling with my family from Melbourne to Vietnam (Da Nang) via KL in September and wondered if there is any way i would be able to use a lounge facility in either Melbourne or KL?

Absolutely you can. You can purchase Plaza Premium or Mahindra lounge access in Melbourne. Or if you have an Amex, use their lounge as well. I am sure there is plenty of paid lounges in KL as well.

As for your status, this means nothing with Air Asia and with gain you no privileges.

Air Asia are now operating out of Avalon rather than Tullamarine where there are no lounges unfortunately.

Oops I forgot about that. You are right. Then there is zero chance of a lounge out of Melbourne

Thanks all.

Good point re Avalon!!

I will look into KL paid lounges, I do note now that they would both be long stopovers so it might be worth looking into a hotel room.

The AirAsia lounge is very very basic and not worth the effort in KL.

No alcohol, just a tonne of Coke bottles and very basic food offering, maybe 1-2 hot dishes.
