QFF Tier Change with Pending Upgrade Request

Hello gurus,

long time reader, first time poster.... I wonder if anyone can tell me - are pending upgrade requests (Qantas) updated to reflect any loyalty tier changes that take effect after the request is submitted?

For example, I am currently QFF Gold. I am flying SYD-SIN return in July, and have requested a classic upgrade reward for the return sector.
I will actually reach 1,400 SC's for my membership year on the outward leg, meaning a bump up to QFF Platinum a few days before the return flight.

Will the upgrade request I have submitted (as QFF Gold) update to reflect my new status? (and hence move me ahead of any other QFF Gold's in the queue)? Or will it reflect my status as at the time I submitted the request?

I know I could phone Qantas and ask but I don't fancy yet another 45m+ hold time for what should be a pretty quick answer.

Appreciate any insights here, safe travels.

I have been in this situation a couple of years ago. I rang QF at the time and I was told they recognise my status at the time the upgrade is processed even if it was not the status when I requested the upgrade. Therefore there was no point in cancelling the request and making it again - something I was considering doing and I told them as such. However Qantas' rules may have changed since then. Best give Qantas a call to confirm.

NSunners is correct. This was the case for me few weeks back. It is at the time of upgrade, your status is looked at.

My status credits accrued on BNE-SIN a day later, but on my LAX-BNE route, the status credits appeared 45mins after i landed in BNE.
So, if your outward leg will change the status, and if everything goes well, your return leg would be based on your new Platinum status.

Which, theoretically should mean OP would move from the Gold queue to the back of the Platinum queue in terms of who gets allocated an available seat...

Thanks all for the contributions.

@markpk wouldn’t that mean my place in the queue vs other platinums is determined by date of request rather than how long I have been platinum for?

I understood upgrade requests from FF’s of the same loyalty tier where processed on a first come, first served basis. Obvs any CL, P1 or Plats with lifetime Gold would be ahead of me but not necessarily the others, no?

Thanks again, safe travels.

That is what was explained to me 12m ago when I upgraded a JFK-LAX leg. I rang Qantas and the helpful guy explained that I'd joined the back of the Platinum queue - I had one P1, and two Plat's in front of me.

Not sure if Plat's with LG getting any special treatment (which was me at the time).
