Hey guys,

Thanks for taking the time as usual.

I travel to the USA every even year for a very important conference that takes place during the last weekend in June. Next year I will be heading off to Boston. Mum is coming with but she can't leave until about a week after me due to family commitments.

I am a Gold member, until Jul2020, she is Silver. We are in Melb.

The PE flights SYD/NYC return look particularly appealing because of price AND the very important fact that I can see that the extra leg room seats are all still available. PE isn't worth flying, especially for 20+ hours unless you can snag one of those precious seats.

I know we will be returning to Australia together, so, it shouldn't be a problem with the seats.

1. If I book a PE flight for her SYD/NYC return, and as she isn't going to be with me (and she is Silver,) IF I were to book her flight and choose the exit row PE on the A380, will they take it away from her? She is able bodied!

2. Also, as Gold member, how long do you think before we start seeing the exit row seats start dissapearing?

3. In your opinion, is now the best time to book, since I can find SYD/NYC return for $3750?

Many thanks!

BTW, any news on DSC promo?

If you chose the seat and pay the extra it should be fine. Also consider via Dallas as that A380 is in (slightly) less demand and DFW beats LA to clear customs at.

Thanks for the response patrickk,

This is what occurred, (to my surprise.)

I had 2 QF tabs open in my browser, I was logged into my QFF Account on both.

At the same time, I was waiting for a callback from QF. They said it would be between 25-30 mins but I received a call about an hour later, and the woman lacked knowledge, nor was she willing to assist me.

Thus, I decided to call back, whilst the 2 tabs were open.

I made 2 separate bookings with my account and got the primo Red-E-Deal PE fares at $3748 return.

Additionally, I was able to secure 24K for myself on QF 12 SYD-LAX (It cost me nothing to purchase the extra legroom seat (Although I'm only Gold)

Unfortunately, the LAX-NYC leg, the first row of PE was blanked out, so no extra legroom. (I can live with this,) so chose an Aisle.

At the same time, I booked my mother's flights, as she is leaving a week after me. I managed to select 24A for her, also at no extra cost for the extra legroom.

The woman who I'd spoken to before told me that my mother would not be allocated this seat because she is only Silver QFF and isn't travelling with me (on the departure leg)

Finally, after over an hour waiting, I was transferred to the most helpful QF assistant on the phone. He linked our 2 bookings and assured me that She will in fact get the extra leg room/ 24A seat as it is linked with my booking. He was fantastic and patient with me.

Returning from NYC, We have 26J/K from JFK - LAX and 24 A/B on the LAX - SYD route, again, at no additional cost.

The second I made my booking, the Red-E-Deal prices for both my mother and myself (Departing on different dates, but returning together) had all been snapped up.

This is a rarity with Qantas.

I Made an Uprage request to Business straight away and Although I am only Gold, Those 24A/B J/K are so coveted and I am travelling alone ex Syd, hopefully, this increases my chances!

Btw how do we link the booking instead of depending on a CSR often waiting for a very long time on the phone?
