Am travelling soon to Dubai from Sydney and have been watching the actual departure times for QF1 from Sydney, in relation to the scheduled time of 4.05pm. More often than not for seemingly the past few weeks, QF1 has departed Sydney seriously late....IE several hours. This seems to be a trend and I cant work out why this happens. Surely its not the late arriving aircraft from LAX or HKG or similar? If it is, there's a problem. Can anyone shed some light?

While I cannot assist with the answer of your question, I was told by a friend that QF1 left SYD at about midnight earlier this month. A serious delay of about 8 hours so it would be interesting to see if there is a systemic problem with the route

They didn't give it the day that all those Virgin flights were cancelled a gouple years ago. Why would they give a dispensation for 1 flight???

And I have heard that on a few occasions it has been due to late arriving domestic flights / from nz.

It was late the other day, retimed to depart at 1800, which ruined the photo I wanted.

A380 VH-OQI operating QF1 Sydney - Dubai - London Heathrow (depart Sydney 11th May) terminated at Dubai this morning with the Dubai - London Heathrow sector cancelled due to a technical issue. Subsequently today’s QF2 London Heathrow - Dubai is cancelled and the aircraft will pick up the schedule operating the Dubai - Sydney sector on 13th May

Today at least it departed the gate right on time, with actual take-off at 4.19 pm

According to Flightware.com QF1 Left Sydney late on the following days (late being 15 mins past the ETD)

1 May - 16.28, 2 May - 22.27, 3 May - 22.28, 6 May - 16.34

7 May - 19.15, 9 May - 16.22, 10 May - 17.23, 12 May - 20.23.

That is 8 days (out of 14 - 57% of flights) have left late. Since QF and EK began their Alliance, it seems that QF is begininng to operater like EK...

And we all know how notorious EK is for lateness...
