Delta opens private LAX check-in lounge for Delta One passengers

Guests in ‘Delta One’ business class departing from Los Angeles on Virgin Australia partner Delta Air Lines can now sneak into the terminal via a private check-in zone, directly accessible from the roadway.

Inside, guests can obtain a boarding pass for their onward flight to New York or a raft of international destinations including Sydney, London and Tokyo via the service desk...

... or a conveniently-placed row of self-serve kiosks.

Then it's time for a little relaxation in the adjacent private lounge with a refreshment bar – again, exclusively for Delta One passengers…

… and can proceed into the terminal proper via a dedicated security screening point, reminiscent of Virgin Australia’s Premium Entry facility in Sydney.

Time-poor travellers can then head directly to the gate for boarding, while those arriving earlier can cool their heels in Delta’s Sky Club lounge which now features an updated food area with café-style seating and newly-renovated shower suites:

Part of a wider three-year, US$229m (A$296.7m) project at LAX, Delta’s Terminal 5 also boasts a renovated Sky Priority lobby, four additional security screening checkpoints, new baggage carousels, additional aerobridges and new celebrity chef restaurants and brand-name shops.

"These upgrades to Terminal 5 are transforming visitors' first and last impressions of Los Angeles," said LA Mayor Eric Garcetti. "This investment by Delta is the latest in our now more than US$8 billion overhaul of LAX... (including) nearly all of our terminals.”

Delta SkyMiles elite members, Virgin Australia Velocity Gold and Platinum cardholders and SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus frequent flyers can continue to use Delta’s existing Sky Priority check-in desks when travelling in economy, and the new Delta One zone when booked in Delta One business class.

Delta seems to be poaching loads of ideas from Virgin Group airlines (Atlantic/Australia).

Guess the 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic is producing dividends...

"Exclusively for Delta One passengers" - everybody else uses the priority check-in desks in the regular terminal area.
