Delta ramps up Sydney-LAX to ten flights each week
Delta Air Lines is going all-in with its sole US-Australia route.

Soaring demand between Australia and the United States now sees Delta Air Lines mounting a confident ten Sydney-Los Angeles flights per week – more than even Qantas, let alone its US rivals American and United (which replaced Delta as Virgin Australia's stateside partner).
In addition to Delta's long-standing daily DL40, which departs Sydney at 11.20am, every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday sees the newly-minted flight DL42 wheels-up from Sydney at 2.15pm, to reach LAX at 9am, so travellers to put in a full day at LA or catch a connecting flight on the SkyTeam member's extensive domestic US network.
Both flights feature Delta's flagship Airbus A350, where the Delta One Suites in business class offer not only fully flat beds and direct aisle access for every passenger, but also a closing privacy door to help maximise rest on those trans-Pacific treks.
Premium economy, branded as Delta Premium Select, also appears on the A350s, providing a comfortable reclining seat with a sturdy leg-rest, ample legroom, high-definition seat-back entertainment and more, as well as complimentary inflight messaging via Delta WiFi.
As previously reported, Delta has now opened a glamorous, Hollywood-inspired Delta Sky Club lounge at Los Angeles, as part of the airline’s ambitious $2.3 billion Delta Sky Way LAX development.
The lounge offers a mix of seating options for work and relaxation.
The jewel of the Club is its Sky Deck, a year-round, all-weather terrace where guests can enjoy premium drinks and panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles and the Hollywood Hills.
There's a seat at the terrace with your name on it.
Delta's lounge ambitions also include a network of Delta One lounges which will be exclusive to business class passengers and designed to complement its Delta One suites in the sky – the same approach as that taken by United Airlines' Polaris business class and lounges.
The first Delta One Club lounge will open at new York’s JFK Airport sometime in 2023, with a second to follow at LAX in 2024.

I cannot speak highly enough of Delta and flying them to the USA from Sydney. In November we flew Sydney to Las Vegas via Los Angelas with Delta in Delta Premium Select and it was faultless. Great communication from the airline via text before flying, text to let us know our bags were on board, the cabin was more than adequate for a flight of that distance. The seats were comfortable, food on the Syd-Lax leg was excellent although the return leg the food was just ok (US caterer). Service on board was excellent on all 4 flights we took and the lounge at LAX is wonderful ..... although the problem with the Sky Deck outside of the lounge is the smell of jet fuel because of the proximity to the gates. Price wise their pricing was the best for a non-stop to Lax and we'll certainly fly them again next time.

My next door neighbour, a QF Platinum, had to fly Delta premium economy to LAX & return, QF fully booked and last minute booking, she can't stop bagging Delta. Claims food poor, seats uncomfortable, staff indifferent, etc etc.
In her words, never again. Myself, never flown Delta, so no personal experience.

Perhaps it was the Platinum attitude taken on board that in part caused the problem and the "had to fly Delta" approach. I've been a QF platinum lifetime since it was allowed and as I said above the Delta experience was faultless with the exception of the food on the return leg which given a take off time of close to 11pm wasn't as much of a problem as it could of been. The seats themselves are definitely not uncomfortable - they are certainly not a QF business class quality but they are significantly better than the QF premium economy offering. Four different flights with four different crews and we had no issues with any of them - specific crew assigned to the Premium select cabin and always on the ball.

I used Delta over and back in Premium Economy in October. Nothing like the amazing Virgin experience unfortunately, but a reasonable price for a product a bit better than Y. Seat width is an issue and food not much chop on the 350, but over all much as you would expect from an American carrier.
