Singapore Airlines to overhaul SilverKris airport lounges

Singapore Airlines is working on an all-new design for its SilverKris airport lounges next year, and its Sydney Airport lounge will be the first to receive the multi-million dollar make-over in mid-2013 before it's rolled out to all SilverKris lounges worldwide.

The design will be crafted by Singapore-based architectural and interior design firm ONG&ONG, which interviewed frequent flyers about their experiences of airport lounges and travel in general before presenting their winning pitch for the new look.

“Apart from providing customers with an inviting and exclusive contemporary space, the next generation of SilverKris Lounges will meet the changing needs and expectations of both business and leisure travellers and better integrate the ground and air travel experience" said SIA’s Senior Vice President Product & Services, Mr Tan Pee Teck.

“Many of our customers tell us that the moment they step on board a Singapore Airlines aircraft, they feel an immediate sense of ‘home’. We hope to replicate that ‘home away from home’ experience in our lounges, along with the warm Asian hospitality that Singapore Airlines is renowned for."

In addition, the SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne Airport will be undergoing expansion and renovation works.

Due for completion around the end of November, the improvements will offer increased seating capacity as well as a new dining area.

SQ is probably responding to QF refurbishing its 1st lounge at SIN. Maybe SQ could consider doing something to the horrid Krisflyer Gold lounge (without showers and toilets) at SIN. The state of the KF Gold lounge shows how much SQ cares about its elite frequent flyers.

"elite frequent flyers" on economy are worthless to airlines, compared to First Class passenger revenues.

Hi Wayne, I don't think SQ is doing this as a response to QF refurbing its Singapore lounge. As the article says, this is a worldwide initiative across all SilverKris lounges, Qantas' SIN lounge would barely be on their radar because it's nothing great and even after the refurb won't be a major factor in gaving people fly QF vs SQ, whereas SQ's Singapor elounges are its 'flagships', so what QF does at Changi really isn't much of a threat overall.
