Tip: ask for the 'secret' breakfast at the Qantas First Lounge

Tip: ask for the 'secret' breakfast at the Qantas First Lounge

Okay, we may taking a little liberty with the word ‘secret’.

But despite the dozen delights on the seasonal breakfast menu of the Qantas First Lounge in Sydney and Melbourne, there’s one special unlisted item that’s available only by request.

This is the fried egg with bacon and tomato relish served on a sweet brioche roll.

A staple of a previous seasonal menu, this simple but flavoursome twist on the classic ‘bacon and egg breakfast roll’ was taken off the printed menu but remains available to those who know to ask for it.

And it’s worth asking for. A whole egg is pan-fried until it turns golden underneath but keeps that soft yolk. That's teamed with grilled Schulz smokehouse bacon and a dollop of rich tomato relish.

So if you’re looking to try something different from the breakfast menu on your next visit to the Qantas first class lounge, ask for something that’s in fact not on the menu at all.

Never has a bacon and egg roll looks so utterly divine.

Why can't this come to the QPs rather than hot dogs...

You've never had a bacon and egg roll???   While I'm sure this is a nice take on it a bacon and egg mcmuffin from Macca's with a hash brown on the side is available any day and goes down rather well...   Hog dogs, I think i'll give those a miss...

Of course I've had one! I've had plenty, thank you very much. They're available for $5 at just about every shop in Railway Square, but this is a cut above.

Of course, once we get into the debate of which bacon and egg roll is best...

When in Asia, the runny yolk on a properly cooked easy over fried egg is damn near impossible to find.  One of the things I miss most about Oz and UK.

Really? I find good bacon is the harder thing to find. In Malaysia and Singapore fried eggs are done very well if you know how to ask - they love runny yolks as much as we do! (Of course, they put pepper and soya sauce, so make of that what you may.)
