Does QF offer a grace period when dropping status? I most likely won't requalify platinum on August 31st but I'm flying on QF107 on September 2nd and would love to use the 1st class lounge in Sydney. Will my status drop on September 1st or do I have a chance?

Officially no,but go as usual and if questioned about it be polite and apologise and request entry anyhow .this has worked for me in the past.

I'd suggest you make sure your frequent flyer number is in your booking before 31AUG and try not to make any changes or touch the booking which could prompt the system to revalidate your status. Checkin as early as possible.

Not sure if this will work, but ive flown many airlines where my status was not reflected correctly after qualifying for a HIGHER status. The agent deleted and readded it, to prompt the system to revalidate it. Hopefully this works in reverse also.

Then try to enter the lounge without showing your card, just your incorrect boarding pass.

QF can elect to hold you at your current status level.  Anecdotally I've heard it is based on your SC earn over the last 3 years, no one will confirm this officially though.  This has happened to me this year.  Was kept at Platinum despite virtually no flying activity.  Keep an eye on it, your assessment date may change to 31AUG15 without you dropping.  Good luck.

Hi Modog,

I have a friend who due to a medical problem did not fly for an extended period. He retained Plat and his wife who also did not fly much retained Gold status.I believe there is no hard rule, but i can tell you another person i am aware of did go from Plat to silver after retirement. As i see it they will look at it after a year but if activity is not there after sustained, after one year your done.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

I remember last year when my Platinum status with VA was reviewed it took close to a month for the status to show as platinum being retained. Someone at the VA platinum help desk pointed out the back of my membership card which states that platinum benefits are offered for a further month beyond the review date. This meant I had no issue with claiming benefits from SQ, Air NZ etc.

Does QF have anything similar? If my review date is August 31st and I retain platinum but am in the middle of a overseas trip how would I go about getting access to partner lounges etc? Would I be denied entry as my card states an expiry of 31 August?

Even if they don't extend your status for an extra year, typically the downgrade in status doesn't happen till 3 or 4 days into your new year. So, I think it is likely, that extension or not, come Spetember 2, you will still be showing platinum.
