Has anyone from Perth tried buying US Air miles or similar, and been able to get to Europe, perhaps on MAS?

Hi Frank,

I used to buy US Airways miles all the time to get to Europe.  I'm based in Sydney, but in fact I have a trip coming up to Spain where I'm connecting through Perth.  Malaysia sometimes releases award space on their flights to Australia, but a much better option would be using Qatar Airways through Doha.  That is who I'm flying through Perth to Spain, and their schedules from Perth are very convenient for connecting to a lot of places in Europe.

Yeah I'd definitely go for CX or QR instead of MH. Much better product and transit points. MH is like the default you fly if you can't get something better (same as TG in * Alliance).

Real Kid,

Did you have any problems routing through Perth from Sydney?

The information I was told that because Perth isn't an official hub city in Australia it not possible to connect that way. However Perth connecting in Sydney or Melbourne is permitted.
