Hi all.

I have read on several other forums that CX's Business Class product has dropped quite a bit in it's quality of service.
My family of 10 have booked Business Class from Perth to Vancouver and after reading these reports we have some doubts as to the quality of the service. Considering .that my sister is paying for all fares she would like to get some opinions from other travellers. If there is any doubt a change will be done. I have always thought that CX's Business Class was quite good but we would be very grateful for any constructive comments.
Thanks Rod H

CX is an amazing airline with a wonderful business class product, ranking up there with the best. I've never had a dissapointing flight with CX before and I've always found them to be just as good at SQ. Any business class is better than economy ;) .

Your sister paid for 10 business class fares? I would almost think a private jet would be cheaper.

CX is known as one of the best airlines in the world with good hard product and service, I haven't had any bad experiences in any of their classes in the past few years (Yes I've done all four classes with CX). I find the business seat is more comfortable to sleep in compare to similar seats on other airlines (Finnair comes to mind), and F&B is of good quality too (love their order-anytime wonton noodle soup). In terms of their service, although some may say their cabin crews lack personality which I agree if you're used to the Aus/NZ style crews. But what you do get is very efficient and courteous service and it is consistent, regardless of which crew member you get, and this can't be said on most other airlines. If you fly with SQ often, you should be familiar with the style of service CX offers.

I have always enjoyed flying business with Cathay. Their seats are great, the food is excellent and the crew are attentive. Hong Kong is also a breeze to transit through with excellent lounges. You also avoid having to transit through the States (via LA etc). I would take the Cathay option every time.

I am flying CX J to New York later this week.  Previous experience has been very good in all classes.

Thanks for the replies.its great to hear that everyone has only praise for CX Business Class.

I thought it was good but after reading what must be biased forums stating that the service had dropped a lot I thought it would be wise to ask Austbt travellers. It was worthwhile asking.
And yes " grannular" my sister is footing the bill which to say the least is wonderful of her but a private jet might cost a tad more methinks.
We are really looking forward to these flights , thanks again everyone!

Cx has a fully competent business class offering, however, with something of an assembly line feel to it. In other words all the basics will be there without making it special in any way.  The seat will be good, the entertainment good, the service efficient, and the food generally disappointing. The exception to this is their lounge in hk which is excellent.

As with most flights, a great crew makes a great flight. Some CX FA are rather mechanical, others warmer and more welcoming. But in all cases they are usually polite and efficient.

CX business class seats are some of the best.  You can't go wrong with reverse herringbone seats. Good quality pillow and duvet. Bring your own pyjamas - none provided but a well thought of amenity kit is. I find the cabins to be warm and the entertainment units keep seats very warm. Don't over dress.

Load your iPad with films/shows. Or a good book. I find CX movie selections a bit hit and miss, unlike QR and AA (77W, 787) which has a wide and varied selection. Particularly with QR with X men, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC & Marvel box sets - it was heavenly! CX music selection is decent - I enjoy their classical music play list.

Food on CX is not plated in the way you expect with premium airlines but very edible. I'm not a fan of the hot mains being carted out for pax to select but I guess you can actually see what looks good rather than being disappointed when something plated is served to you.

Can't comment on the booze, I don't drink.

CX lounges in HKG is phenomenal. Head to the CX Pier Business lounge. You won't be disappointed.

Flying to Canada from Australia, CX is a good choice. Efficient routing, consistent product on both legs and easy transit procedures in HKG. Enjoy!

P.S: How rich is your sister????

Mod note: posts from two concurrent threads on the same topic have been combined into one (excluding any posts asking for such to happen). Happy Friday! :)

CX J Perth to New York.  Service good, food ok, seats good, IFE could be better.

The trolley served mains has its pros and cons.  Nice to see the offering, but I would prefer it was brought to my seat when I was ready rather than waiting while everyone in front considers their choice.
I query serving breakfast as the second meal for a 16 hour flight that lands at 9pm though.
Oh, and wife discovered how to get PJs from CX in J (tendency to get travel sickness!)
