Hi all. I’m usually good with this stuff but I managed to leave an iPad on a VA domestic flight Thursday (BNE - MEL). Has anyone had any experience with retrieving items left on the plane? I’ve spoken to baggage at Melbourne Airport but nothing has been handed in Australia wide. I’m interested to know how long I should keep trying for before giving up on it and writing it off as gone forever? Any tips/advice would be much appreciated
Sometimes with lost property found on planes they are not always handed in straight away. Generally the procedure is if something is found we would get a spare sick bag and write on it seat number, flight number, aircraft registration and date. If it had been found late at night it is possible that the lost property found that night may not have been handed in until the following day. Just out of curiosity where abouts on the aircraft did you leave it and what was your flight number
I (accidentally) in Dec left my credit card pouch in MEL outside the T3 VA the Lounge, and it was found, handed into VA large items left hole in wall in arrivals MEL T3.
Had to fly back to pick it up, as they can't post keys in the mail.
Hopefully someone with scruples has handed your item in, and on it, there is some identification, VA in my case called up my Aust phone number, as I had various VA cards in the pouch.
Best of luck though.
It all depends on the scruples of the person finding it.
Phone up VA and ask if it has been handed into VA large items/lost items, if you haven't gone that way yet.
If someone who does not have scruples, finds it, then of course they would not hand it in.
I have found used items in the seat pocked, so it means that VA planes are not wholly cleaned, so who knows who found the item, if its cleaners, or if someone other person found it.
***EDIT: ah, sorry, wrote before reading that you have contacted lost items at MEL T3.***

Hmm, I would have a look at where the plane flew to next (Flightradar24 app) and contact that airport as well - got to be worth a shot. I don't think the lost and found indexing system is very digital so I would be surprised that someone in Melbourne could confirm Aus wide... (this may have changed but sounds too good to be true!)
I left a suit at MEL security on the way back to SYD. Someone was trying to take a toy gun through in gift wrapping (outline clearly visable) which after a couple of refreshing ales in the lounge was enough to distract me. Anyway, agree on keep being persistent and try all avenues. It ended up being handed back to the baggage claim staff and a friend was flying back the following week was able to pick it up after they gave me a "pin" code. Maybe you'll need to try a few bagage claims at the various airports depending where it is found, but I think all the numbers are together on the website. I wouldn't count on the gerneral airport lost and found and go straight to the baggage claim staff. Hope this helps!
Hi all. Thanks for the input. It showed up in Melbourne baggage services. I did have the find my iPad app but my iPad is wifi only so wouldn’t work until it connected to wifi! Crisis averted!

I don’t suppose by any chance you had the ‘Find my iPad’ or ‘iphone’ app installed on your phone?

Lucky you. I left a pair of noise cancelling head phones onboard once. Never seen again...
