Has anyone ever had any luck getting Qantas to switch Emirates metal flight to Qantas outside normal process?
I'm flight to London on Wednesday evening on EK metal with QF flight number (in Economy). I booked EK because I needed to leave in the evening. Booking was made with AmEx travel to use my $500 credit.
I now could leave a bit earlier. I'd love to switch to QF metal so I could request an upgrade. QF will not talk to me because it is an AmEx (i.e. travel agent) booking. All flights on the day are sold out in Economy so AmEx can not change my reservation.
It seems to me that it would be in Qantas' interests to switch me to Qantas metal if it were possible as I want to use points to upgrade. They are oversold in Economy but not Business. I have Platinum status. Do you think that the Pt FF helpdesk might sort me out?
As mentioned - pretty much no chance I'd have thought. Worth a call perhaps to see, but I would adjust your expectation levels to their lowest setting.

To be honest my expectation levels are set very low. I'm just wondering if there are any options. Who might I call? Is it worth just pitching up early and trying my luck? Worst case I just have to sit in the international first class lounge for 8 hours.
I would call Amex first and see if there's anyway to change this since they are your travel agent. But without a schedule change or equipment swap, I doubt they'll change your flight without charging you. Also, have you checked that your flights that you want to be moved to is still on sale?
Being Platinum helps a bit when calling QF but your chances are slim. If you want to buy a Biz ticket I'm sure they'd be more than happy to sell it to you but otherwise, very very slim chance.
Finally, if your flight is already oversold, cross your fingers for a small number of Emirates elites so you get an op up based on your Platinum status. I'm pretty sure QF members come after Emirates elites of the same tier.
In addition to all the above, I'm guessing you purchased the cheapest economy fare which would presumably come with a bunch of restrictions on changes as well as change fees.
The only person/company you could talk to is Amex Travel - the airlines paid them commission so they don't have to deal with you as a customer (to a point).

So you're saying economy is already oversold, and you want them to put you onto that flight so it's even more oversold? I'd say you have no chance.

Near zero chance. You're booked in economy with another airline through a third party website, with flights already oversold.
