What are the chances Qantas would release 2 seats on Chicago-Brisbane direct flights in Business for a platinum member, currently there are no seats available for redemption (Aug 2020)?
Don't ask don't get. Last week as a platinum I had my wife (not a platinum) on a different PNR join me on an exit row seat on a A380 for no charge and got Qantas to move us to an earlier flight on arrival in Sydney even though our ticket didn't allow for fee free changes. So worth a try, you never know.
I'm gold now, turning platinum in 10 days. No seats are available for redemption now. So, the question being, would my fortunes change when i become platinum?
When you become platinum you see more options, and more seats if there are any to be had. The advantage of being platinum is not so much the lounges which is nice but all the other little things that do add up.

Your chances do become higher based on experience. I have had 2 occasions where seat requests have come through for family most recently in November when I got 2 seats in business for my wife and daughter. The call center staff on both occasions were very helpful and went out of the way to find seats.

At the moment I can see one day in August which has two seats available in business on the direct flight available to me as a Platinum.

I managed to snag 2 awards in Business as a Bronze for the start of September so there are some out there.
