How to join Qantas Frequent Flyer for free in 2022

Looking to join the Qantas Frequent Flyer program for free in 2022? There's really no need to pay the airline's $99.50 joining fee.

Here are four simple and completely free ways to skip the membership sign-up fee and get started on your journey of collecting Qantas Points.

Some of these methods take advantage of free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership sign-up promo codes, others rely on companies with Qantas Frequent Flyer partnerships. What they all have in common is that they let you keep that $99.50 in your pocket or purse.

Why join Qantas Frequent Flyer for free?

Well, why not?

Once you've joined the Qantas Frequent Flyer program you'll be able to earn Qantas Points on everything from buying groceries at Woolworths, filling up your tank at BP service stations, using a Qantas credit card for purchases big and small, and of course, flying with Qantas and its many partner airlines.

Those points will slowly but surely add up to free flights and upgrades.

You can also kick-start your Qantas Frequent Flyer points balance by choosing the right credit card, many of which regularly offer a sign-up bonus in excess of 100,000 Qantas Points.

(Even if you're not doing a lot of flying, the Qantas Points Club provides practical benefits such as lounge access for those who the airline terms "non-flying members".)

Start at Bronze and work your way up the Qantas Frequent Flyer ladder.

Four easy ways to join Qantas Frequent Flyer for free in 2022

1. Use the Qantas FAMILYFREE sign-up code

Even though Qantas lists a $99.50 joining fee for the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, the airline also provides a free sign-up code via its own website. The FAMILYFREE code can be used by all Australian residents.

You don't even need to enter this code anywhere on the Qantas Frequent Flyer sign-up page: just click this link, fill out application form and you're in!

Within 14 days you'll receive your complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card in the mail. You'll start as an entry-level Bronze member, but be able to climb the Qantas Frequent Flyer ladder to the Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers by earning status credits when you fly with Qantas or its partner airlines.

Click here to apply for Qantas Frequent Flyer membership using the FAMILYFREE sign-up code and dodge the $99.50 Qantas Frequent Flyer joining fee.

2. Sign up for a Qantas Travel Money Card

In common with many banks and financial institutions, Qantas offers a prepaid travel money card which can be loaded with money in up to ten foreign currencies and even earn Qantas Points when using the card overseas.

The Qantas Travel Money Card feature is actually built into the Qantas Frequent Flyer card, so if you sign up for Qantas Frequent Flyer membership through the Qantas Travel Money Card website, the $99.50 joining fee will be waived.

(Note that you need to be an Australian resident aged 16 years or older to apply for a Qantas Travel Money card.)

3. Make a booking on the Qantas website

From the start of 2022, Qantas allows travellers to sign up to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program for free when making a booking on the Qantas.com website.

You'll instantly be given a QFF membership number and receive QFF Bronze status, which is the program's entry level – and the first step to Silver, Gold and maybe even Platinum.

You also get an instant Bronze benefit: the ability to select your seat free of charge on any overseas flight, which in itself is a saving of between $15 and $45 per flight, depending on your destination.

Plus, you'll also save that $99.50 joining fee, which we can both agree will be better spent on your upcoming holiday!

4. Join Qantas Frequent Flyer for free with Woolworths Rewards

Woolworths has its own loyalty program through which you can earn Woolworths Reward points at Woolworths supermarkets, Big W, BWS and Caltex, to be redeemed later as a cash discount at Woolworths outlets.

However, Woolworths is also a significant Qantas Frequent Flyer partner and gives you the option of converting 2,000 Woolworths Rewards points into 1,000 Qantas Points.

As part of this hook-up, Qantas offers free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership using a special WOOLWORTHS promo code. It's the same deal as with the  Qantas FAMILYFREE sign-up code: you just visit a special Qantas Frequent Flyer sign-up page where the WOOLWORTHS code is automatically applied, then fill in the form with your details.

Click here to apply for Qantas Frequent Flyer membership using the WOOLWORTHS sign-up code and skip the $99.50 Qantas Frequent Flyer joining fee.

5. Join Qantas Frequent Flyer for free with BP Rewards

BP has its own loyalty program, named BP Rewards, through which you can earn BP Points or Qantas Points when you fill up with fuel or shop at the BP service station.

BP Rewards is free to join – just click through to bprewards.com.au – and then download the free BPme app for Apple iPhone and Google Android devices.

Open the app, log in with your BP Rewards details, and then click the More tab, then Rewards cards and Link Qantas account.

There you'll see a button or link saying Not a member? Join for free – and that's your key to snaring a free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership (no $99.50 joining fee) by signing up straight from your smartphone.

Still waiting on my Qantas free card after I joined mid last year. No wonder I prefer Virgin/Star Alliance airlines over Qantas/No World alliance.

The verbal excuse to a similar enquiry I made last year was that covid was responsible for the delay down in Melbourne or Sydney or whatever place it was that cards were done. As an aside: I fly both airlines, but in terms of customer service, Virgin has always been thousand miles in front of QANTAS, regardless of the issue I have. It's details like this that make Virgin my preferred airline too.

The simplest URL to remember for joining free is www.qantas.com/free

does anyone ever pay to join qantas ff programme ? Doubt it.

Qantas programme has been devalued over covid. No longer get checked bag on US domestic or USA/Canada flights as in the past, which makes Southwest much better value.
