Cathay Pacific reopens Bangkok lounge
The cosy lounge is a reliable go-to for frequent flyers on Qantas and other Oneworld airlines.

Frequent flyer rejoice: Cathay Pacific has unlocked the doors to its popular Bangkok lounge at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Unlike the excellent Qatar Airways Premium Lounge which restricts entry to first class and business class travellers, the Cathay Pacific lounge also welcomes Cathay Silver, Gold and Diamond members and their Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald equivalents – such as Gold and Platinum frequent flyers with Qantas, Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways.
Cathay says its Bangkok lounge, located on Level 3 of Concourse G, opens daily from 8.40am to 6.35pm daily.
Those hours are of course shaped around Cathay’s own schedule for flights to Hong Kong, but they also align with the timetable of other Oneworld airlines, including the 6pm departure of Qantas flight QF24 to Sydney.
With seating for around 140 travellers, the lounge is based on the elegant new-look Cathay lounge template created by English designer Ilse Crawford and her StudioIlse team which is also in place at London Heathrow, Tokyo Haneda and of course Hong Kong’s The Pier Business and First.
The Ilse Crawford design is rooted in a strong residential aesthetic such as furniture and lighting – the vibe is more ‘living room’ than an airport lounge, while warm, earthy materials include cherrywood wall panelling and limestone flooring.
The open space is broken up into clearly-differentiated sections, with a standout feature being the signature Noodle Bar serving up freshly-prepared Asian dishes such as wonton noodles and tom yam soup.
Visitors and guests can also enjoy salads, pastries, desserts and a Thai breakfast...
... with a selection of spirits, wines and cocktails from the tended bar.
Bangkok joins the airline’s reopened Singapore and Tokyo lounges, with Manila to follow in April; a date for the much-missed Taipei lounge has yet to be set.

Hooray, definitely a great lounge for Qantas Golds and Platinums, although worth noting you can also use the Emirates lounge under the QF-EK partnership, and that might appeal to some. Emirates doesn't have the noodle bar of course but has a decent spread of food and probably also has better Champagne than the Cathay lounge if that's your thing. But the Cathay lounge is right up there and has a great ambience, very relaxing.
