With the Western Australian border now open to the world, Emirates is banking on pent-up travel demand to fill more of its Boeing 777s between Perth and Dubai, and then beyond the busy UAE hub to the rest of the Gulf carrier’s extensive global network.

Emirates will increase its Perth-Dubai flights to four times a week from April 1, before winging its way back to a daily service from May 1.

Departures on the red-eye will remain as per the current schedule, with EK422 taking off from Perth at 10:20pm to reach Dubai at 5:20am local time the following day. On the return leg, EK420 departs Dubai at 2:45am, arriving into Perth at 5:35pm.

Although sadly not the A380 now soaring to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – which means no inflight showers or drinks in that signature cocktail bar – the Boeing 777-300ER still offers plenty of sky-high comfort.

That includes eight private first class suites and 42 lie-flat business class beds, although those remain in the less-popular 2-3-2 layout.

However, Emirates is now assessing an all-new business class design for its Boeing 777 fleet which would shift to a modern 1-2-1 layout and put an end to the dreaded middle seat.

Emirates' Boeing 777-300ER business class retains that 2-3-2 layout with a middle seat.

Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President for Australasia, sees demand for travel growing by the day, with the Gulf carrier excited to play a role in the industry’s recovery.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer greater connectivity for those looking to return home, travel and be reunited with loved ones,” Brown says.

Emirates is not alone in making the most of WA’s reopening. Gulf rival Qatar Airways ramped up to daily Perth-Doha flights on March 1, with up to three flights from Singapore Airlines. As previously reported, Qantas is also counting down to the June 19 restart of its direct Perth-London service

And although Emirates’ lounges in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth will remain shuttered for now, it has confirmed a plan to reopen them in the second half of 2022.
