More buses will run to Sydney Airport next year, following the NSW government’s announcement of new and additional bus services.
The new routes will be
- Chatswood to Sydney Airport, via Sydney CBD and Botany Road
- Bondi Junction to Miranda via Sydney Airport
The existing Route 400 service from Bondi Junction to Burwood via Sydney Airport will also run more often.
The government also plans to introduce more bus lanes around Sydney Airport, and give buses priority at traffic lights, to speed the journey and improve on-time performance.
Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather welcomed the announcements, saying “we’ve long advocated for additional and more affordable bus and train services to the airport, with only one public bus route to the airport until now."
The airport's master plan includes building a new bus and multi-purpose parking facility, Maher said.
“These new and increased bus routes are a good first step towards easing road congestion, meeting passenger demand, and providing people with more choice and convenience when getting to and from the airport.
The Government has yet to release details of the new routes, including if they will stop at both the domestic and international terminal precincts.
The new services are expected to begin in the first half of 2014.
