I just meant that treating crew with respect and as the professionals they are is better than expecting to be served. I find that good customer service is as much about the way I treat staff as it is the other way around.

Crew are not there to ‘serve’ passengers. They are there to provide a service. There is a difference.

I just walked past the new checkin area at T1 and they have signs up directing US bound travelers to the standard assisted checkin desks.

Thanks everyone for the useful inputs. I ended up getting another schedule change email for the return flight and was able to call Qantas and have them rebook to a couple of days later. It was actually one of the quickest and best calls I've had with them.

I would be extremely surprised if the certification delay was on the Qantas end. CASA are notoriously slow.
