Emirates: six-month downgrade for Perth-Dubai's Boeing 777

Emirates will step down one of its three daily Perth-Dubai flights from a Boeing 777-300ER to a Boeing 777-200LR for six months across 2014 and 2015

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed to Australian Business Traveller that from October 1 2014 to March 28 2015, the daily EK425/424 flight "will be temporarily serviced with a Boeing 777-200LR due to a need to redeploy the current B777-300ER aircraft on the expanding Emirates network."

The Boeing 777-200LR will offer the same first class suites and business and economy seats as the 777-300ER, only fewer of them – with the 200LR carrying a total of 266 passengers compared to 360 travellers on the 300ER.

That shortfall is represented entirely in the cheap seats of economy, as both versions of the Boeing 777 sports eight first class suites and 42 lie-flat business class seats.

However, the airline is keeping mum on long-running rumours that it will introduce one of its flagship Airbus A380s onto the Perth-Dubai route.

“Emirates is continually in dialogue with airports around the world and is always assessing its operations, however there is nothing to announce at this stage regarding the possibility of operating an A380 to Perth" the spokesperson said.

Is a 100 seat per day seasonal downgauge on a 1000 seat per day (with same service options) really a story?

Since Perth isn't a slot constrained airport, I don't see EK scheduling an A380 on this route anytime soon.  If the volumes are there, they can just go to four flights with the B777, and save the A380 for airports that don't have masses of free landing slots
