When are 1,000 Amex points worth $2,000?

Has anybody tried the new points plus pay option for Malaysia Airlines Enrich, which has just been introduced?

The minimum point spend is 1,000 points. A "dummy" booking for ADL-CDG return in business (to access their A380 from KUL-CDG) is 102,000 points on the lowest redemption rate. But with points plus pay you can pay the minimum 1,000 and $3,500, a saving of around $2,000 off the current price of around $5,500.

Amex MR points can be transferred to Malaysia Enrich. So in theory all you need to do is transfer over whatever points you want to burn in anticipation of a reward booking.

Have I missed something? Where's the catch? Has anyone proceeded to a booking?

Sorry for the blank post. I've problem logging in to my Enrich account (seems like it has crashed), but will certainly  verify that for you as I have some points sitting in my account.

Enrich online definitely needs some fine tunning, it is painfully slow and doens't work  well on some browsers. There is also no 'back' button so once you make a small mistake you have to start all over again. On the positive side, I managed to proceed the payment page, it is indeed only 1000pts + $3500 for return business class trip to Europe. Thanks PLATY.
