Hobart’s Qantas Club to close, all-new lounge on the way
Expect more space, upgraded dining and plenty of AC & USB power outlets.
Qantas will pull down the shutters on its airport lounge at Hobart next week, on 8 June 2026, as work progresses on the terminal’s $200 million redevelopment.
An all-new Qantas Club lounge will emerge from that transformative cocoon in early 2027 – and it will be a complete change from the cramped confines of the old Qantas Club, which locals nicknamed ‘the cupboard’.
Hobart’s new Qantas Club will draw from the same template as the recently-opened Qantas Club at Adelaide, “with a modern design inspired by the Tasmanian landscape”, plus runway views.
The airline has previously said the new lounge is “targeting a 50% increase in capacity, from 96 to approximately 150 seats.”
The majority of those seats are expected to be within easy reach of AC and USB power outlets, while upgraded buffet dining will feature a wider range of local produce.
It’s certainly a world away from the old Qantas Club look, which insisted on lounges with an identically generic design, and also follows similar notes to the new Sydney International Business Lounge.
During the Qantas Club’s temporary closure, the airline says “complimentary light refreshements will be available for impacted customers.”
The upgraded terminal will double the airport’s size, while adding two more departure gates, a third security screening lane, an expanded arrivals area with a third baggage carousel, and new food and retail outlets.

The quality and feel of the Adelaide lounge space cannot be understated, it’s the awful food offerings that needs massive improvement. I can see Hobart being in the same boat unfortunately.
