Can you use Qantas points to upgrade to business class with Emirates?

We are looking to book QF PE to GLA or NCL in UK. But would like to upgrade to J. The problem is the DXB to UK ins in Emirates. Can I get an upgrade on EK, we are booking thru QF.

Nope, you can only use Qantas points to upgrade on Qantas operated flights.

Moreover AFAIK it has to be Qantas tickets also. I.e. QF flight number on red-tail plane.

As above,  no. But head of skyward recently was quoted:

"Mr LaBelle added Emirates would continue to consider if Qantas frequent flyer members could use their points for upgrades on Emirates flights."

Particularly galling for those in PER and ADL, where QF has effectively withdrawn

NOT to mention that from both PER and ADL, EK does not fly to SIN or KUL from these 2 Aust cities, so no way for PER or ADL residents to fly J with the cheapest way (points or cash) to SIN/KUL if they have the points or cash but don't want to fly SQ.
