I had to spend a couple of hours there last July as my flight was delayed. The airport is rather dull to spend more than an hour. It's a modern terminal but the shopping is pretty poor, as is the selection of places to eat.
It seems there is a hotel in Terminal 1 called Air Rooms bu it doesn't get great reviews on Tripadvisor.
I would definitely go into the city - the bus takes about 45 min from T1 or the train takes 30 min from T2. 7 hours is enough time to walk around and grab some lunch. Barcelona is really lovely.

Transit lounge/hotel in Barcelona El Prat? Or any other recommendations to cool your heels for a 7 hour layover in Barcelona El Prat airport.
