Like many people, I had to cancel flights during the pandemic and was issued a flight credit by Qantas. When I tried to use the credit this week, the Qantas website was charging $75 more for the same flight compared to booking and paying in the normal way. The 'Fly Flexible' policy is touted by Qantas as a no-penalty option for cancelling/re-booking flights. Clearly this is not the case. Is this kind of price-hiking for flight credit holders even legal?
I have booked 4 flights with flight credits and not had an issue, I selected the flights first and then just added the credit as part of the payment, the amount never changed because I was using a flight credit.
A Current Affair aired a story on this issue and there was no mention of it being illegal. If you are prepared to spend hours on hold then you can probably get the lower price by calling Qantas.

That's not using a Flight Credit, that's using a Travel Pass. Sounds like if you did get Flight Credits they were converted into Travel Passes.
The condition of some flight credits is that you must spend the entire value of the credit (or more) on your new flights. If you find a cheaper flight then you are charged in a higher fare bucket that uses up all of the credit value.
