This is a very dishonest article. Qantas is not changing its status earning or other fare conditions for any of its marketed fare types. It has simply moved a fare bucket into the discount economy category so its systems can offer an additional price point. The consumer will notice no difference.

Melbourne-Launceston has not been operated by Qantas mainline for close to 15 years and Sydney-Ballina launched this year with QantasLink.

I asked Qantas Premium when I cancelled my latest set of flights this week and they stated that Qantas are now reviewing membership extensions based on status earn over the past couple of years.

Business gives 80 status credits for a paid fare and 38 status credits for a classic reward (with Points Club/Plus).

You will need 1300 further status credits to attain platinum. The offer is a fast-track to gold, not the gifting of a bonus 600 status credits.

I flew into Perth from Hobart on Friday night. There are four desks after a temperature check which take about a minute to process each passenger. The Hobart flight was 100% full in both classes, so I’d guess about a 45 minute wait for the final passenger.
