My husband and I are travelling on Emirates from Adelaide to London, codeshare with Qantas on Boxing day. We are travelling back on QF metal A380 and have requested an upgrade.
While our ADL - LON flights were booked through Qantas, I understand that it's not possible to use QFF points to upgrade on Emirates metal.
However, is there any other way we might be able to procure of an upgrade (ideally ADL - DXB)? I understand that Emirates sometimes sends out offers to purchase upgrades via email a week or so before the flight, and others have suggested requesting a paid upgrade at checkin - does anyone have any thoughts on how we might be able to go about this? All thoughts welcome.

Re route through Sydney or Melbourne on the way over to pick up QF 1or QF 9 - should be easy to do on line.

Not one of the best ways if you want to fly Emirates.

You basically only have the paid upgrade option via email or airport. To upgrade with points on EK metal, you need to be using EK points.

Thanks for the feedback.
Michael, re-routing through SYD or MEL is not an option for us, as we have family committments on Boxing Day in ADL we need to adhere to. We also booked our fares via Expedia Brazil (avoiding some $1400 worth of fuel su rcharges in the process), and I don't like my luck trying for flight changes!
Watson374, are you able to shed any light on how to pursue the email or airport upgrade options you mention are viable when booked on the flight with a QF flight number? I'm assuming that one would generally have needed to have booked via Emirates to get sent the email offer. If anyone has any experience with either of these scenarios, please share.
