Question about earning velocity points.

Hey guys, I recently took a Hawaiian flight (Sydney to Honolulu and return) sold as VA codeshare.

I received 0.5 points per 1 mile, whereas if I had booked it through the Hawaiian website, it appears I would have earnt 1 point per 1 mile, and the same amount of Status Credits? However it appears I would not have received my status bonus. I was expecting to receive about 5k points per person one way and an additional status bonus, however I only received 2.3k per flight for my partner and 5k for myself being a silver member, per flight. I should have booked through Hawaiian.

My question is, if I booked a flight VA1/2 through delta, would I earn 1 point per mile as opposed to 0.5 points per mile? Would this also work with the DL flight from SYD - LAX. Would it be worthwhile booking my partner through delta as she is a red member, and then she would earn more points?

Interested to hear your perspectives!

It really depends on the fare basis code for each fare. Just because HA & VA sell the same flight at the same price but use their own flight number, doesn't mean the fare basis code will be the same. Compare these using the earning table on the Velocity site before you book.
