Flight options for Auckland to Hawaii and Los Angeles

Flight options, my family are planning to travel Auckland to LA and Hawaii for Disneyland and relaxing. I am unsure which is the best option, AKL to LAX return with HNL as a side trip or AKL to HNL return and do LAX as the side. Any ideas, are side trips from one port eg LAX cheaper than via HNL?. Have a look at Hawaiian Airlines. They often offer a free stopover in Honolulu (and sometimes the surrounding islands) and they also fly to LAX.

HNL-LAX is 5 hours or so each way so AKL-HNL-LAX return on Hawaiian makes good sense. Why go AKL-LAX-AKL with 10 hours of additional side if you don't need to? NZ do AKL-HNL-AKL and codeshare HNL-LAX-HNL with UA so have a look at them too.

Although aklrunway & wilsoni have covered some good options flying direct, do not discount Fiji Airways who actually have some excellent fares ex-NAN to LAX with some codeshares on AA and DL between LAX & HNL. They also operate their new A330 between NAN and LAX.

As mentioned Hawaiian is an Excellent option Nice Onboard product and great fares often allowing stops in HNL or free Inter Island sectors.

We travelled this route ex Melb and opted for the AirNewZealand to LA-  great service and good arrival time and then LAX to Kauai in in the islands direct Amercian Airlines

I agree with aklrunway and wilsoni comments. Will look  at costings of AKL-HNL-LAX return or AKL-HNL-LAX-AKL,  as all one way sectors. LAX to AKL will give me the option of AirNZ cuddle class, as we are 2 adults and 1 child (8 years old). I have enough AirNZ points to cover the sector (LAX to AKL) or to use for Hotel bookings. AKL to HNL will give me the Hawaiian Airlines option, which offer excellent baggage and package deals.
