Being a member of velocity? As in lounge access? The singapore lounge at Melbourne airport is nothing to get excited about. Book you most direct and/or cheapest flight. If lounge access is a major deal, there are pay per access for around $50 a head. I think the Air NZ lounge may do it.
As many have stated, the Virgin international network is non existant. The virtual network is a strecth at best, downright deceptive at worst!
