Issues with lounge access whilst transitioning. We are Elites with Aadvantage and transitioning to BAEC (no status). The QF lounge dragons are adamant we can't access the lounge but are unable to point to specific terms and conditions, except saying "it's a loophole" that they are closing down. Any advise on this? The experience in this instance is inconsistent with experiences in the past.

You're not very clear on the details.

Not sure where in the world this happened but I do know that at LAX airport at the Qantas operated lounge, American Airline status holders are being denied access when their flight departs from TBIT. That's the only loop hole I am aware of that they are closing down.

Can you specify which airlines, flights and airport this happened at?

Perplexing, If you were tranfering from AA to BA and wanted to use a QF lounge, you should be able to based on your AA status... IIRC QPub should be like a Admirals club, but it depends on he AA/QF agreement and whether it specifically excludes other OW partners.

Hey LondonAussie,

This happened at MEL Domestic Business lounge. The dragons were just adamant. At the SYD Domestic Business lounge, the dragons suggested that access was not allowed either but were quite happy to change the FF number on the boarding pass from AA to BA despite us having used the lounge.

Apparently there is no issue for airlines within OW as they do not charge each other for the use of lounge, but a charge is levied for EK when their FF uses the QF lounge. However the agent said there was a caveat for AA where a charge of $45 per entry is levied inspite of the OW arrangement.

We also rang up QFF and spoke to someone in charge of lounge access, who seems surprised that access was denied. He is as escalating the matter and will update me this coming week.

TRB,

Hope it goes ok and you score some complimentary points. Very odd situation indeed by the sounds of it. My Xmas trip home, it was even easier then previously to access QPubs on the 30 day AA membership, but maybe they have realised people are scooting through this and trying to stop it.

In any event, I will reach Gold with QFF this year, so wont get the Admirals club pass again for some time. But, most of my flights are BA with my QFF #, so access shouldn't be an issue.

Thats said, I will be making a reward booking with my BAEC account (No status), so should they should they try and block my access, there will be some arguing.
