If you must earn Virgin points then you could book the Air Canada flight and enter a Singapore Airlines frequent flyer number into the booking. In discount economy return you could transfer these to Virgin and still earn 5450 miles for the return trip. 10905 miles for the return trip in Premium Economy or Business class. It's not ideal but at least you'll still earn some Virgin miles.

You could also book the fly Virgin via Los Angeles with Virgin and Delta.
