Just returned from Europe with QF in First. What a total disaster....outbound was Emirates and return with QF. Emirates was outstanding, but QF had shabby seats, inedible food, poor wines and the amenities and sleeper suit was rubbish. Have another trip booked in First in Dec....looking to shift to Emirates....how can QF call their offering First?//
It's a very very plain F offering on QF. Service is less formal but very attentive. Crew are not really that polished in appearance or service - style too casual. Agree food isn't award winning but pretty good quality generally. Lavs are very sub-standard and a joke for F class. Sleep suit picks up every bit of lint and the amenity kit is very cheap....no mouthwash or any nice touches reflecting it's an F kit. Really it's a non 'wow' service when you've flown the ME 3 and a few others but unfortunately still charged at a premium price.
Thought this situation will only be more so in EY class, but really shocked to hear even F class is not quite up to par. I am wondering if there are spot check quality control management staff type position in airlines? Not to implicate cabin crews but more to keep standards consistent and highly respected. Food to be of high edible quality in all classes.
I would love to be working in such an occupation. And if it doesn't exists then I'm still putting my hands up to help create this position.

Ok, so first your trip cannot have been a total disaster, you were in first class mate.
I find the EK to be excellent but not wide enough compared to the QF or CX seat, however the plastic looking wood grain and gaudy gold finish are not to my taste. Maybe the food was not to your liking, or not to a first class standard, that is fair enough, but id say it would have been eminently edible. They have won many an award for their wine selection, but maybe it didn't suit your pallet, fair enough if so.
While you may have had a bad experiance, the downvotes on your comment suggest to me that QF First is a few steps above rubbush.
I've flown first on EK & QF and also like both for different reasons. EK is flash but largely impersonal and service standards vary significantly (I was once denied a shower 2 hrs from landing when there were only 3 of us up front and both showers vacant. The cabin boss later got his butt kicked). EK food is bland and nothing to write home about but the wine list is great: 2006 Dom and 2006 Clarendon Hills Shiraz (the latter as good as Grange in my view). QF is ageing but more stylish and less blingy. Service is better and more engaged, while the food is much better and the wine list okay (nothing sticks in my mind). Emirates suffers from a lack of consistency and cabin crew cohesion, relying on wow factor to win people over. Qantas is lagging behind in hardware but it's still an impressive offering. Horses for courses, but neither is garbage...
I don't know how you can call the sleeper suit rubbish. The QF bed is one of most comfortable to sleep in, especially when you are comparing to EK. The seat is also wider and far more comfortable when not resting. Service, food and drinks etc are a personal preference, but certainly aren't garbage.
Qantas First Class compared to Singapore Airlines and Emirates is pretty poor. Service is no better than Business Class, nor is the food or wine selection. You would think given the incredible selection of top shelf wines in Australia, the national carrier would at least find some space for one of them in the First Class wine list. The seat is looking more like a Business Class offering. It would be remiss not to mention how expensive a ticket in dollar or miles terms is relative to EK or SQ.
I don't know why anyone would bother flying F with Qantas when there is such vastly better service available with Etihad / Qatar/ Singapore. Singapore F is in my opinion by far the best there is but that does not include the " Residence " on Etihad although I have not been in that but all reviews are very positive indeed.
QF First Class is not bad. It's good. But it pales in comparison to the offerings of the other carriers like SQ, EK and EY. Arguably because QF has a monopoly on most of its A380 routes for First Class and doesn't see the need to invest a heck of a lot more money to install new suites.
I like the less formal approach and really like the seat...plenty of space, comfortable, crew attentive, food and drinks OK (especially the champagne) and certainly not lacking privacy. Just wish they had a bar/lounge that was similar to the Qatar.
Garbage? Jeez, you're hard to please or maybe you haven't flown enough. In the last 24 months I've done (long and too damn long haul) QF, QR, EK, EY & SQ. I'd pick SQ but bagging QF as garbage is a big stretch. You didn't enjoy the Comtes...

I hope you could at least luxuriate in the on board lounge... Maybe it was that experience that caused you to classify the experience as Garbage.
