Yeah, same here, thought I'd never use the J upgrades as you need to buy a Freedom fare. But I did recently use 2 x upgrades on a work trip to Fiji where the client specified Y only but the booking needed to be flexible due to high chance of meeting date change or cancellation. So Freedom Y with the J upgrade was perfect.
Free YX and the higher priority seat selection compared to gold are also good WP benefits over SG.
But agree with others that it is not worth spending thousands on status runs to get it.
